LCBO cyberattack affects its website and mobile app services

The popular liquor store of Canada ‘LCBO’ falls victim to a cyberattack on Jan 10th. The in-store purchases are operational while the website and mobile app are currently offline due to the cyberattack that happened on Jan 10th. LCBO Cyberattack is affecting it’s online services until further notice.

LCBO Spokesperson said that there is an active investigation into this incident, and mentioned that the website and mobile app will be unavailable for purchases until further notice. Users visiting the website or mobile app will be shown an service unavailable notification.

LCBO incident comes soon after SickKids hospital cyber incident that happened in Toronto yesterday. The network was breached affecting connectivity of various devices in the network. The hospital later mentioned that the issue was internal and not because of an external attack.
LCBO cyberattack and the entities behind it
A ransomware group has apologized to LCBO stating their partners were the one behind the cyberattack on the liquor distributor. According to Check Point Research, cyberattacks increased in Canada by 20 per cent last year. The firm said health care, finance and government industries were the hardest hit in 2022.
“We’re working to bring them back online and thank you for your patience and understanding,” the LCBO said on Twitter.
