French Hospital CHSF falls victim to a ransomware attack affecting its operations

The French Hospital Center Hospitaliser Sud Francilien(CHSF) was hit by a ransomware attack on Sunday which affected its mundane operations. The patients and their surgeries were referred to another healthcare establishment.

The French Hospital CHSF serves around 600K residents and with this disruption in their operations, lot of people’s health and life was put to danger.

“This attack on the computer network makes the hospital’s business software, the storage systems (in particular medical imaging), and the information system relating to patient admissions inaccessible for the time being,” explains CHSF’s announcement.

There are no further details about the attack meanwhile the emergency cases are being transferred to a nearby medical facility. As per Le Monde, the ransomware operators behind the incident had demanded $10,000,000 in exchange for a decryption key.

The Paris Police have started an investigation regarding the incident and are looking for the intrusion into the French hospital CHSF’s network with any attempted extortion patterns.

Lockbit 3.0 could be the one behind the French Hospital CHSF attack

As per Valery Riess-Marchive, a cybersecurity journalist based out of France, LockBit 3.0 could be the reason behind the intrusion. And since Natinal Gendarmeri is handling cases is directing that the service deals with Rangar Locker and LockBit attacks.

Since Ragnar Locker is usually associated with a smaller audience, LockBit 3.0 can be the possible reason behind the CHSF breach.

Although the speculation of LockBit is around, there is not data associated with French Hospital CHSF is made available on the LockBit 3.0’s extortion site which is  why this could just be a hypothesis unless proven  true.
