Germany student arrested for operating the Deutschland Dark Web

A 22 year old student from Germany has been arrested by the Federal Criminal Police(BKA) in Bavaria after suspicion that the boy has been the admin of ‘Deutschland im Deep Web’ (DiDW), one of the largest dark web markets in Germany.

The platform went offline in March 2002, that had 16,000 registered users, with more than 28k posts including sale of weapons and drugs.

The suspect is now facing charges for the same, and maybe imprisoned for ten years.

History about the Deutschland Dark Web

This Deutschland Dark Web was launched in 2013 as a forum to discuss IT security, in 2017 it reached 23,000 users and 6 million monthly hits.

However, the site was later seen selling illegal goods such as weapons and drugs, by employing an escrow system for transactions to mask members from fraudulent listings.

A Munich shooter in 2016 had used this platform to procure the murder weapon and its ammo online, said the BKA announcement.

Later in 2017, the Deutschland Dark Web was shutdown by law enforcement authorities, and the operators were arrested and sent to prison for seven years.

Rebirth to Deutschland Dark Web

However, in 2018 a new version of the Deutschland Dark Web platform reappeared with the motto “No Control, Everything Allowed”, thus stating all the illegal activities on the site won’t be kept hidden.

Again in 2019 the site was down for ten days, later came a third version as an official successor of the Deutschland Dark Web.

After five years of investigating the Deutschland Dark Web and entities associated with the illegal site, law enforcement agency was able to identify the admin of the third DiDW version and arrested him on Oct 25, 2022.
