Ubisoft cyberattack forces the gaming giant to reset passwords

French-video game giant ‘Ubisoft’ became victim to a cyberattack on Friday last week. The attack caused massive disruptions to its games, service, systems and network.

Ubsioft has its headquarters in Montreuil stated that they are investigating the attack and taking measures to reset company-wide passwords. The gaming giant also stated that their games and services are normally functioning and that there is no breach into player personal data yet.

Hackers behind Ubisoft Cyberattack

The Ubisoft Cyberattack is in a sequence of cyberthreats thats being launched at tech giants recently, including Samsung, NVIDIA, Mercado Libre and Vodafone in recent days. The operator behind Ubisoft Cyberattack is yet to be known, however in case of others it was LAPSUS$ hackers. The Verge, was the first to confirm about Ubisoft cyberattack, however LAPSUS$ hasn’t taken the claims for Ubisoft yet.

LAPSUS$ is known for double-extortion ransomware attacks where they encrypt sensitive data and then steal the same for leaking it online if their ransom demands are not paid within the given time period.

Unlike other ransomware groups that steal and encrypt proprietary information for a ransom, LAPSUS$ extorts the targets by plundering the sensitive data and holding it hostage, and threatening with leakage should their demands be not fulfilled.
